Due to the rise in orders from Sharp for backlighting applications for LCD TVs sized over 50 inches, Genesis Photonics plans to utilize its full capacity in late March and early April 2012, confirmed the company president Hsu Shih-hung.
Genesis photonics is a Taiwan-based LED epitaxial and chip manufacturing company, which reported 50 percent revenue growth in 2011 as compared to 2010. Hsu estimated LCD TV backlights and lighting demand to each account for 40 percent of its revenues during the year 2012.
Further, Hsu indicated that the company contrives to control its expenditure to below NT$2 billion (US$67.8 million) for the year 2012, thereby slowing its investment into LED epitaxial wafer production in China. The company wants to wait until the demand for LED backlights takes off by 2013.
Genesis will focus on new LED production in a new marketing model in late 2012. This will ensure 90 percent sale of its epitaxial wafers.
